Total Atomic Power or TAP is a real-time strategy game which we deem as the "spiritual prequel" to the 1999 classic Total Annihilation® (T.A.) RTS game. It is actively under development since 2018 and has been playtested since the very first weeks of development. The underlying engine, SpringRTS, is an advanced open-source RTS engine. We've chosen it for TAP due to its ease of use, power, and advanced networking features. A notable advantage, for instance, is that you may even reboot your machine, then still get back to the same match you were playing on, after a connection failure for instance. When you reconnect to the game you will watch a fast-forward replay of the entire game, then regain control of all your units. Play it online directly on our Spring servers! Installation instructions below.
Disclaimer: All rights on the "Total Annihilation" game name and art are reserved to Wargaming.net. During the current beta stage of TA Prime, you're required to possess a valid license of Total Annihilation to playtest the game. You can get one for a dime on Steam. Our test servers are totally free to play on, no fees are charged.
Story
Two thousand years in the future, the control of the solar system is split between the Bow and Kern factions, with peace and diplomatic respect established between the two sides. Unexpectedly, a previously unknown meteor, probably incoming from another galaxy, hit a small moon of Saturn, Pandora. The incident occurred in a neutral, uncontrolled zone, yet the impact was so major that it pulverized the natural satellite and shredded the meteor into thousands of smaller pieces which scattered throughout the system. These smaller chunks of the meteor are composed of an unknown mineral alloy, named as 'pandore' (later nicknamed as simply 'ore') as a homage to the devastated moon. The events which followed were called 'the opening of the pandore box'. On each planet and moon hit by pandore, the metal chunks sunk deep into the terrain, forming craters known as ore spots. Obeying rules unknown to our Physics, these spots sprawl chunks of ore which self-replicate when in high concentration nearby their origin points. After being researched with interest by the space agencies, pandore has proven incredibly versatile, being easy to mold and synth (an almost instantaneous 3D-printing-like process) equipment and weaponry. At first, the two factions developed hardware to take advantage of the new resource, exploring ore from planets under their control with mind-controlled robots, using a safe remote control process called transminding. Wars with human casualties had been rendered extinct for more than a century due to this technology, since the destruction of any controlled robots or vehicles would not affect their transminders in any fashion. These tranquil times only lasted until a controversial Kern scientist, Dr. Persius Khan, developed a way to concentrate a huge amount of electromagnetic power from the highly volatile pandore-electricity to project a devastating shockwave, capable of not only instantly destroying physical targets, but also to desync its transminder's astral and physical bodies. In practice this process instantaneously destroys both the physical matter it gets in contact with, and also the so-far-immortal astral body of any synced transminder. This terrifying technology was called "Total Atomization", an advancement of the common physical-only Atomization techniques. The leaking of the holovideos showing the initial tests terrified the population of all planets, and was deemed as a crime against humanity by Bow's high officials. In a world which had defeated diseases and poverty, then 'banned death' with the transminding technology, that was too much to bear. "The Doom Gun" weapon technology was soon replicated by Bow scientists, which miniaturized the equipment so it could be employed by highly specialized robotic units called Avatars. Kern accused Bow of industrial espionage, then created their own Avatars. The vast resources required for the production and operation of Doom Guns could no longer be fulfilled by the ore being harvested from each faction's controlled territories, so the escalation of disputes became irreversible. After an incident on a military base located on the Kern-controlled planet Venus, Bow was accused and not only denied any responsibility, but also blamed Kern for supposedly faking an attack. That triggered a strong military response by Kern, igniting a system-wide open war.
It's right at the prime time of this intricate reality that you'll transmind into a Kern or Bow field Avatar, deployed through IPBMs (Interplanetary Ballistic Missiles) to contested regions. Your job is to control the region, achieve pandore superiority and Totally Atomizeall enemy opposition. Good luck, commander!
